we run edelbrock vic jr heads which have been cnc ported. our cam is a comp cams custom grind 272/276 @ 0.050 with 0.705 lift. we run the motor at 7200 for shifts and 72-7400 across the stripe. we do not run the motor higher as our piston in the aftermarket block is heavier and we feel the rods would require an upgrade to safely turn more rpms. a stock block motor will run at a higher rpm than we run ours but will require a very strong cylinder head to do so and a motor setup to turn more than 7500 would require restrictors to force more oil to the bearings. when we ran a stock block with restrictors, etc. we turned it to 8500 on several dyno pulls but our heads ran out of airflow and power leveled off after 7400.

Hi, thanks for your input, very much appreciated, I haven't been on hardcore for a while I have always been impressed with your combo, it probably sounds like I'm a bit green I do have a mechanical trade, I just trying to research a few things and the restrictor setup has me a little beat, what heads and cam size are you running, the rpms you turn is that due to 3" mains, cheers!!
